Basler Starts Serial Production
of A600f Cameras

April 24, 2002

Basler Vision Components (Basler-VC) starts serial production of its newest line of area scan cameras, the A600f series. These CMOS sensor based cameras have a full frame shutter, an IEEE 1394 interface, a very small housing, and can operate at up to 100 frames per second at full 656 x 491 resolution. The cameras also include an Area of Interest (AOI) feature that allows them to operate with higher frame rates at lower resolutions. The addition of the A600f series to Basler’s portfolio of IEEE 1394 cameras establishes the company as the leader in adapting this exciting technology to the industrial digital camera market.

When an A600f camera is combined with the Basler BCAM 1394 Driver and a standard 1394 PC adapter board, it offers a low cost, plug and play solution. Their reasonable cost and ease of integration make these cameras especially attractive to analog camera users who are considering going digital. In fact, the slim, compact shape of the A600f cameras (29 mm x 44 mm x 67.3 mm) means that they will easily fit into the space occupied by many common analog cameras without major changes to the mechanical mounting system. The cameras also feature user definable I/O ports which add increased flexibility in industrial applications.

Because the camera is very powerful, Basler can implement many additional features into the camera such as gamma-correction, a frame counter, or time stamps. This ability is an exceptional benefit to the customer. An algorithm is able to deliver high dynamic range images with up to 20 bit depth. This is possible, because CMOS technology does not exhibit the blooming or smearing effects seen with CCDs.

“Properties such as speed, easy plug and play, small size, and high image quality make A600f cameras an ideal fit for nearly all digital area scan applications. Automated optical inspections in the electronics and semiconductor market are especially appropriate target uses,” said Dr. Joachim Linkemann, Vision Components Product Manager. Cameras with more features and a color version are planned for this year.

Basler-VC designs and manufactures advanced vision components for industrial users. Our products include color and monochrome line scan and area scan digital cameras for high speed and/or high-resolution applications. Product designs are driven by industry requirements offering easy interfacing, compact size, and a strong price / performance ratio.
